A concept for faster, simpler footwear adjustment

Velox is a conceptual shoe-closure system designed to explore an alternative to traditional laces.

The idea uses a compact buckle and adjustable strap routed through a shoe’s existing eyelets. The strap could be pulled tight to secure the shoe, then released using the buckle lever when removing or loosening it.

The goal was to create a closure that feels quicker and more convenient than tying laces while remaining removable and avoiding permanent modifications to the shoe.

Concept goals

  • Faster tightening and release
  • Simple, adjustable fit
  • No loose lace ends
  • Removable installation
  • Use of existing shoe eyelets
  • Compact, low-profile construction

Design approach

The concept was developed around a small cam-style buckle that grips the strap once tension is applied.

Unlike a traditional shoelace, the user would not need to tie a knot. The buckle would maintain the selected tension until manually released.

The design also explores whether one closure system could be transferred between multiple compatible pairs of footwear.

Portfolio concept only

Velox is an early-stage concept created as part of the Dezzro Design portfolio.

It is not currently available for purchase and has not been finalized, commercially manufactured or fully tested for long-term use. The appearance, materials, dimensions, installation method and overall design may change through further development.

This project is presented to demonstrate the process of identifying an everyday inconvenience and developing a practical product concept around it.
